Helpful Moving Tips from Seaside Grove

Let’s face it, moving is stressful! At least once in your life, you’ve probably grumbled the words “I’m never moving again!”. However, life is ever-changing and moving is inevitable, so we’re here to provide some essential moving tips that will make the process go much more smoothly and painlessly.

Tools

In an effort to be as prepared as possible, keep a box of moving-day essentials handy. This box should contain items such as packing tape, permanent markers, disinfecting wipes, bottled water, paper towels, toilet paper, band aids, pain reliever and some snacks. In all the chaos and disorganization that comes along with moving, having these necessities on hand and close by, should help to alleviate some of your stress and aid in productivity.

Moving Companies

Hiring a moving company to assist with this grueling undertaking will not only speed up the process, but also take much of the physical labor off your hands. Fortunately, the Myrtle Beach area has many reputable moving companies who are willing and ready to get the job done. Two Men and a Truck and College Hunks Hauling Junk & Moving are a couple of the most popular moving companies in the Myrtle Beach area and can frequently be found assisting residents of Seaside Grove with their moving needs.

Packing

When it comes to packing, cardboard boxes are typically the “go-to” for most individuals. An alternative option is to purchase a few large, plastic storage totes. Often times, they can be more durable than cardboard boxes, and they are great for storage once you’re finished with the move and all your belongings have been unpacked. Opting for the clear version of these totes can be very helpful when looking for a specific item or to easily determine what’s packed inside.

Where to Find Packing Materials

Packing fragile/breakable items is always challenging! For this daunting task, bubble wrap will definitely come in handy! Bubble wrap can be purchased, by the roll, at many different locations near you- Walmart, Lowes, Home Depot, Staples and Office Depot. Towels, paper towels, newspaper, or plastic grocery bags can also be used in place of bubble wrap to secure your breakable items during the move. For larger items such as mirrors, TVs, art, or large picture frames, blankets can be draped over these items for additional protection. Rolling suitcases can be used for transporting heavier (non-breakable) items such as books!

Packing Clothes Gently

Wardrobe boxes are another very useful tool when it comes to packing. These boxes can be purchased at stores like the ones listed above for purchasing bubble wrap. However, a cheaper alternative, and probably the best moving hack that we’ve come across, is to use garage bags in place of wardrobe boxes. Leave your clothes hanging where they currently are. With an open garbage bag, start at the bottom of the clothes and surround them with the garbage bag. Continue to pull the bag up until you’ve reached the hangers. Once you get the top of the bag around the hangers, tie the drawstring around the “hook” part of the hangers to keep them all in place for easy transporting!

Minimize and Declutter

One upside to moving is that it gives you a chance to go through all of your belongings and purge the items that you no longer want or need. Now you may be asking yourself what to do with said items. Fortunately, there are a number of companies to help with this – Goodwill, Salvation Army, and Habitat for Humanity are all great places to drop off donations. If you have larger items that you wish to donate, but are unable to transport, some companies allow you to schedule a pick-up with them. If you have other “junk” that cannot be donated, you can try College Hunks Hauling Junk & Moving or 1-800-GOT-JUNK.

Good luck with your move! We hope that you enjoy these tips so you can feel prepared for your new residence. Moving is a chance to refresh your belongings and restyle your space. Take advantage of this opportunity and make it the best apartment you’ve ever had!
